Spring Car Tune-Ups

With Spring and warmer weather driving on the horizon in Mooresville, now is a good time to give your car a spring cleaning and thorough inspection to make sure your car is ready for warmer weather travels throughout the Lake Norman area. Having your trusted ASE Certified Technician at Brawley Tire and Automotive check this list recommended by the Car Care Council* will give you an idea of repairs that you may or may not need this season.

  1. Schedule a tune-up and have the following systems inspected: battery, charging and starting, engine mechanical, power train control (including onboard diagnostic checks), fuel, ignition and emissions.
  1. Change your car’s oil and filter every three months or 3,000 miles or whichever comes first. This will ensure that your car operates at its peak efficiency.
  1. In addition to an oil change, check other fluids as well, including power steering fluid, brake and transmission fluids, windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.
  1. Check your car’s hoses and belts. A faulty belt could result in costly repairs to the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering, or cooling system.
  1. Check you car’s brake system, including brake rotors, drums, and linings.
  1. Check the shocks or struts for signs that you may need to have them replaced. Some of the warning signs include; the car sits lower in the front or back, rolling or swaying when turning, or the vehicle bounces or slides sideways on winding or rough road conditions.
  1. Inspect the floor of your garage for any puddles of fluid or stains. If you find any, it’s a good idea to bring your car in. The list of possible fluids that could be the culprit is long and includes antifreeze/coolant, battery acid, brake fluid, engine oil, gasoline, gear oil, power steering fluid, shock and strut fluid, transmission fluid and windshield washer solution.
  1. Check your tire pressure. The temperature variations that accompany the change of season can cause your tires to lose pressure, which can impact your vehicle’s performance. Also, be sure to rotate your tires according to the manufacturer recommendations.
  2. Don’t forget to wash your car from top to bottom and inspect for minor body damage as well. It’s important to fix car scratches and chips in the paint to keep your car looking its best!
