October Car Care

It’s finally starting to feel like Fall! Did you know that October is Car Care Month? We looked to the Car Care Council for tips to share with you on how you can improve the safety and reliability of your car this season, while making sure you are prepared for the cold weather that’s sure to follow.   Here is what they recommend.
  1. Check fluids, including brake and transmission fluid, engine oil, power steering, windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.
  2. Check hoses and belts to make sure they are not faulty, loose or showing signs of excessive wear.
  3. Check the battery to make sure it’s fully charged and that there is no corrosion, or replace if necessary.
  4. Check the brakes and inspect the linings, rotors and drums.
  5. Check the exhaust system for leaks, and other signs our sounds of possible damage.
  6. Check the engine to make sure it is operating efficiently – balancing power and fuel economy, while minimizing emissions.
  7. Check the HVAC system to ensure interior comfort when you are on the road, no matter what the temperature outside. When the cold arrives, defrosting will be an important safety consideration as well.
  8. Check the steering and suspension system, including struts, shocks, and chassis parts.
  9. Check tire pressure and treads for signs of uneven or excessive wear which means you might need a wheel alignment, or new tires.
  10. Check the wipers and lighting to make sure other drivers can see you and that you have optimal visibility when driving in rain or snow.

The Car Care Council is a great source of information for the “Be Car Care Aware” consumer education campaign.  Our Certified ASE Auto Technicians would be happy to answer any questions you may have, and inspect your vehicle to make sure you are prepared for Old Man Winter!
