Suspension System Repairs

Your car’s suspension system is strong and sturdy and built to last for years and thousands of miles. It can, however, be damaged quickly by hitting a curb or pothole, and it can wear more quickly if you frequently drive on bumpy roads or off-road.  There are several warning signs that your car’s suspension system may be in need of attention.

1. A Rough Ride
When your vehicle’s struts and shocks start to wear out you will feel every bump on the road and your car’s body may tend to bounce.  A rough ride is one of the most obvious signs that the suspension needs to be checked.

2. Uneven Tire Treads
When the suspension isn’t holding your car evenly, you will begin to see uneven wear on the tires.

3. Difficulty Turning
When the suspension system starts to go bad, you may feel your car drifting or pulling when making turns.  This means that the shocks are not keeping your car stable against the centrifugal force of a turn. If you feel this while turning, it’s definitely time to bring your car in as this could increase the risk of a rollover.

4. Nose Dive Stops
Does your car lurch forward when you hit the brakes? When the shocks are worn out, the vehicle body will feel like it’s lurching forward, nose-first when you brake. This can actually affect your ability to stop the car quickly.

5. Leaky Shocks
Take a look at the shocks or struts under your car. It they look greasy or oily, there’s a chance that they may be leaking fluid. If it’s a leak, it’s time to replace those shocks.

If you suspect that your suspension system is going bad, press down on the front of your car with all of your weight.  Try to bounce it a few times.  Repeat this on the rear of the car. If your car continues to bounce after you let go, then the suspension system may be failing.  At Brawley Tire and Automotive, our honest ASE Certified Technicians will check your suspension system and give you a competitive estimate for any repair that may be needed.  Contact us today!
